I am a licensed Practicing Psychologist in the State of North Carolina (#597) with over 40 years clinical experience. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I earned both my Masters and Doctoral degrees in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Over the course my professional career, I have held a number of clinical and supervisory positions in both public mental health and private practice settings. Although I consider myself a generalist, I have a special interest and expertise in the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, interpersonal problems, marital problems, and occupational difficulties. I have a cognitive-behavioral treatment orientation. My therapeutic approach recognizes the important role of thinking patterns and self-speech in how we feel and what we do. It is also firmly rooted in the basic premise that desired changes in how we feel will be closely linked to our success at making needed changes in the way(s) we behave. Psychotherapy will involve a collaborative effort with each client to identify needed or desired personal changes, followed by a systematic joint planning of workable strategies to attain desired changes (i.e., in thinking and behavior) within a realistic timeframe.
Psychotherapy is NOT a passive process.
